Blue Opportunity I

Abstract painting featuring yellow and blue latex and acrylic paint drips over a dark swirling background of deep blues, black, and brown. The textured layers create dynamic contrasts between the flowing drips and bold strokes beneath.

Authenticity vs Marketability.

I was fairly new to the medium of drippy, fluid latex, but had some sincere fun and success with the paintings I’d made with it. They sold before I could really advertise them and I began to wonder “Is this the style I’ll be known for”? People really liked these works, but I wanted to keep experimenting. Blue Opportunity was a set that felt very genuine to make but so close to the line of what people want that it made me uncomfortable. These pieces emit joy and spontaneity, but the title alludes to the feeling of being too close to that line for comfort.
